        Est: $200 - $300

Rare anti-Semitic publication with an interesting association: 'Kampf Dem Weltfeind' ('Fight the World Enemy') by Julius Streicher (Nuremberg: Verlag der Sturmer), 1938. 148pp. 8vo. in gray boards with brown titles. According to a library handstamp on the title page, this first edition copy belonged to the Oberfinanzprasident of Nuremberg, likely given to him by Streicher himself as the Gauleiter of that region. The title page also bears a directory handstamp, with the directory number '2008' added in pencil next to it. The front flyleaf bears a customs office handstamp and an untranslated inscription in German, both crossed out with a red 'x'. Some pages broken at the gutter, else fine condition. The book comes from a large grouping of Nuremberg books from the estate of Captain Augustus B. Hill, the Chief of Real Estate and Land Resources of the Bavarian sector of the American military government. Nuremberg was the second-largest city within his jurisdiction. Nov. 19, 2019

        JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK "THE POODLE-PUG-DACHSHUND-PINSCHER"

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

The excessively rare third of Julius Streicher's notoriously anti-Semitic children's books, The Poodle-Pug-Dachshund-Pinscher, written by Ernst Hiemer, Streicher's Chief Editor at Der Sturmer" who also wrote the text for Der Giftpilz. This hardbound volume, published by Der Sturmer's publishing house in Nuremberg, 1940, is 96pp. 8vo. and bears an imaginary mongrel dog on the cover with line drawings of various other rather disagreeable creatures. The illustrated text compares Jews to unpleasant forms of animal life: drone bees, hyenas, chameleons, coo-coos, locusts, bedbugs, starlings, mongrel dogs, poisonous snakes, tapeworms, and bacteria. The title comes from one of the stories, which focuses on a mongrel dog. Three of the stories end with outright calls to exterminate the Jews. Sample text: "...There are various kinds of poisonous snakes. There are poisonous snakes in the most varied countries in the world. The same is true of the Jews. There are little and big ones, fat and thin ones, black-haired and even blond ones...Just as the snake’s bite poisons the blood of its victims, the Jews poison the blood of their host peoples...Just as the danger of poisonous snakes is eliminated only when one has completely eradicated poisonous snakes, the Jewish question will only be solved when Jewry is destroyed...The doctor advised Mrs. Müller to end her son’s treatment only when she saw the tapeworm’s head. It means nothing if segments of the worm are shed, for they can grow back. It takes a radical cure, continued until the worm is entirely dead...Tapeworms and the Jew are parasites of the worst kind. If we want to free ourselves of them, if we want to be healthy and strong again, there is only one cure: their extermination...It is much the same with the Jew, Many peoples have taken effective measures against the Jewish bacterium. They have passed laws against the Jew! They have driven the Jew from the center of public life! They have forced the Jew to live in special areas (ghettos)! But no people has yet succeeded in fully getting rid of the Jew...We today who are building a new Germany and a new Europe under Adolf Hitler’s leadership will not carry out the final and decisive reckoning with Jewry! No! The final and decisive reckoning with Jewry is reserved for our children and their children...". These texts were so offensive even Nazi-aligned critics responded negatively to their release. Post-war, the Allies issued orders that such material be burned - this copy escaped intact as evidence. Cover bears some scattered marginal stains, interior excellent with a business's ownership stamp on front flyleaf.

JULIUS STREICHER AND THE SEIZURE OF JEWISH BUSINESSES

        Est: $1,000 - $1,500

JULIUS STREICHER (1885 - 1946) Nazi journalist and politician, editor of "Der Sturmer" and virulent anti-Semite, executed at Nuremberg. Important typed D.S., 1p. legal folio, Nuremberg, Nov. 25, 1945. Streicher prepares a "Defendant's Application for Summons for Witness" to be submitted to the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg in preparation for his trial. He asks that "Gau Treasurer Hoellrich" be called, noting: "Through this witness I can prove that I did not participate in the forcible transfer of Jewish real estate to Gentile ownership, which took place toward then end of 1938 or the beginning of 1939, that these forcible transfers were undertake without my knowledge by Gau Leader Holz and that I refused to shield Holz before the Fuhrer afterwards thus drawing this enmity upon myself..." Signed by Streicher and his attorney in pencil at bottom. Very good. KARL HOLZ (1895-1945) replaced Streicher as Gauleiter of Franconia and was supported by Streicher in the endeavor. Immediately following Kristallnacht, Holz commenced seizing Jewish homes, property and businesses. Jews were basically paid 10% of the nominal value of any claim for seizure or damage. As a justification for these low prices, Holz claimed that the Jews had mostly bought their property during the inflation period for a tenth of its value. As has been shown by investigating a large number of individual cases selected at random, this claim was never true. Provenance: The present document originates from the personal archives of Hans Werner, who in 1945, as the Director of Printing at the International Military Tribunal, was responsible for overseeing the printing of the Record of the Trial of Major War Criminals for the Nuremberg Trials. Professionally conserved in the early 1980s, the work being carried out under the supervision of the India Office in London.

JULIUS STREICHER DEFENDS HIS ACTIONS ON "KRISTALLNACHT"

        Est: $1,000 - $1,500

JULIUS STREICHER (1885 - 1946) Nazi journalist and politician, editor of "Der Sturmer" and virulent anti-Semite, executed at Nuremberg. Important typed D.S. in bold pencil, 1p. legal folio, [Nuremberg], Nov. 25, 1945, in German. An official International Military Tribunal application form for a "Defendant's Application for Summons for Witness", requesting that Fritz Herrwerth of Nuremberg, presumed held in the P.O.W. Camp at Mosburg, be summoned by the Tribunal to give evidence on Streicher's behalf: "This witness was present in the night of 9th November 1938 [Kristallnacht] at the conversation which took place between the SA Obergruppenfuhrer von Obernitz and me concerning the proposed demonstration against the Jews...the witness knows further that when those events were discussed in Pleikershof I was again enraged at the events of that time and got very excited about the acts of the SS..." Also signed by HANNS MARX, Streicher's attorney, also in pencil. Very good. Fritz Herrwerth was indeed summoned to appear at the Nuremberg Trials on Apr. 29, 1946 where he fully supported Streicher's contention that he was appalled at the attacks on the homes, businesses and synagogues of Jews. Provenance: The present document originates from the personal archives of Hans Werner, who in 1945, as the Director of Printing at the International Military Tribunal, was responsible for overseeing the printing of the Record of the Trial of Major War Criminals for the Nuremberg Trials. JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC COLORING BOOK

        Est: $600 - $700

JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC COLORING BOOK Anti-Semitic coloring book. 6 1/4" x 9", Nuremburg, 1934, An extremely scarce example of Nazi propaganda aimed at propelling children to embrace anti-Semitism, Julius Streicher's "Juden stellen sich vor" ("Jews Introduce Themselves"), a b/w coloring book published by Streicher in 1934. It contains within 25 cartoon caricatures of Jewish men by the notorious cartoonist Philipp Rupprecht ("Fips"), who illustrated man of Streicher's works and publications. Each portrait enjoys its own page within this encyclopedia of stereotypes. The men - who invariably have large noses, big lips and hirsute limbs - include a ragged street vendor, tailor in a yarmulke, a slovenly artist, a portly, well-dressed banker, a screaming politician, a dapper lawyer holding a sign reading "Contract" and perhaps most disturbingly, a lurid portrait of a naked man dubbed "the naked truth"! The book opens with a forward by Streicher and applauds Fips' commitment to "the battle against the Jews". Shows minor soiling to the covers, with slight chips to the spine, else very good.

      • JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK, "DER GIFTPILZ"
        Jul. 31, 2018

        JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK, "DER GIFTPILZ"

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK, "DER GIFTPILZ" Very rare book: "Der Giftpilz" ("The Poison Mushroom"), by Ernst Hiemer with illustrations by Philipp Rupprecht ("Fips"), published by notorious anti-Semitic publisher Julius Streicher, through his Verlag Der Sturmer, Nuremberg, 1938. 64pp. 4to., cloth and paper covers, with 17 color plates. The text and images are extremely offensive, including one beneath a sinister-looking figure passing out candy to children: "The Experience of Hans and Else with a Strange Man: 'Here, kids, I have some candy for you. But you both have to come with me'...", and one beneath a young boy showing a lady a mushroom in the forest: "The Poisonous Mushroom: 'Just as it is often hard to tell a toadstool from an edible mushroom, so too it is often very hard to recognize the Jew as a swindler and criminal'...". Julius Streicher, the Nazi publisher of the anti-Semitic newspaper "Der Sturmer", issued "Der Giftpilz" to generate anti-Semitism among young children by wrapping hateful, corrosive lies about Jews in the form of a traditional children's storybook. Today, its naked propaganda is shockingly apparent, but at the time, it was just one step in the Nazis' feverish rush toward the complete destruction of all Jews. The book uses outright fabrications to create a portrait of Jews as ugly, depraved and dishonest outsiders who must be rooted out for the good of society. Streicher used many of the same simplistic and often contradictory premises for "Der Giftpilz" that he used in his newspaper. Defying logic, the stories taught that Jews were cunning but also stupid; too lazy to work, yet fanatically dedicated to destroying the Aryan "race"; that they were money-worshipping capitalists but also capitalist-bashing Bolsheviks. The illustrations portrayed non-Jews as fair-haired, attractive, ideal Aryans, and showed Jews as dark, sinister, ugly caricatures. Following war's end, American soldiers gathered all copies of these books they could find and destroyed them. This particular copy bears some soiling and wear to the covers, largely at the ends of the spine, and there is some scattered foxing within, otherwise in very good condition.

JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK "DO NOT TRUST A FOX IN A GREEN PASTURE OR A JEW UPON HIS OATH!"

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK "DO NOT TRUST A FOX IN A GREEN PASTURE OR A JEW UPON HIS OATH!" A vile piece of Nazi propaganda, the "instructional" children's book "Trau keinem Fuchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud auf seinem Eid" ("Do Not Trust a Fox in a Green Pasture or a Jew Upon His Oath!"), by Elvira Bauer and published by Julius Streicher's Sturmer Publishing Company in 1936. The brightly-colored hardbound picture book was issued to school children as a supplement to other anti-Semitic "primers" such as "The Poisonous Mushroom". It is replete with lurid imagery of dirty, dark-skinned Jews up to no good amongst innocent and angelic Aryan children, and highlights the heightened Nazi perception of racial differences with every stanza. The book begins with an account of how the lazy Jews historically made their race bothersome to others, and quips: "Look, children, and the two compare, The German and the Jew. Take a good look at the two In the picture drawn for you. A joke - you think it is only that? Easy to guess which is which, I say: The German stands up, the Jew gives way". This rhetoric amplifies as the book progresses with narratives against Jews and their alleged love of money, Jewish lawyers swindling a simpleton farmer, luring Aryan women away from their men with gold and jewels, and so forth. It goes so far as to include an unabashed glorification of Streicher himself: "To him we owe our deepest thanks That German stock remains so sound. The Jews in turn he's taught a lesson, The value of a healthy folk. He let them feel the German spirit Twixt Jew and us he's shown the difference. That is Streicher!!". Of particular note is an image of a wealthy Jew driving a pauper and his daughter from his doorstep, a Jewish butcher serving Aryans cuts of meat from a filthy butcher shop, and ignorant Jewish children tormenting the school-loving Aryan kids. Trau keinem Fuchs concludes with a bucolic image of Hitler Youth on the march and the verse: "From this picture may be seen, Hitler Youth in splendid mien, From smallest to the biggest boy. All are husky, tough, and strong. They love their German Führer And God in Heaven they fear. But the Jews they must despise! They're not like these boys, So Jews must just give way!" This piece of anti-Semitism was one of the most vitriolic published by Streicher. With its bright illustrations and appealing typeface, it enjoyed tremendous popularity and had a run of over 100,000 copies. This particular example bears a pencil inscription on the front flyleaf identifying the owner as a Heinz Graff, with the date March 6, 1937. His Hitler Youth "Sport-Tagebuch" ("Sports Day Book"), 16pp 12mo., is also present. Shows adhesive residue and stains to the front and rear pastedowns, some splitting and minor loosening to the binding and bumps to the corners, else very good. The group is rounded out by a contemporary tin wind-up toy, Graff's model of Adolf Hitler's Mercedes-Benz 770 "Grosser", manufactured by Tippco. The model is missing its windscreen, hood ornament, headlights and figures, just good overall. Three pieces.

The book opens with a forward by Streicher and applauds Fips' commitment to "the battle against the Jews". Some soiling, bumping and wear to the covers, else very good.

JULIUS STREICHER'S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN'S BOOK "DO NOT TRUST A FOX IN A GREEN PASTURE OR A JEW UPON HIS OATH!"

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

JULIUS STREICHER''S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN''S BOOK "DO NOT TRUST A FOX IN A GREEN PASTURE OR A JEW UPON HIS OATH!" A vile piece of Nazi propaganda, the "instructional" children''s book "Trau keinem Fuchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud auf seinem Eid" ("Do Not Trust a Fox in a Green Pasture or a Jew Upon His Oath!"), by Elvira Bauer and published by Julius Streicher''s Sturmer Publishing Company in 1936. The Jews in turn he''s taught a lesson, The value of a healthy folk. He let them feel the German spirit Twixt Jew and us he''s shown the difference. They''re not like these boys, So Jews must just give way!" This piece of anti-Semitism was one of the most vitriolic published by Streicher. With its bright illustrations and appealing typeface, it enjoyed tremendous popularity and had a run of over 100,000 copies. This particular example is in near fine condition with just slight loosening to the edges and slight toning.

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

JULIUS STREICHER''S ANTI-SEMITIC CHILDREN''S BOOK, "DER GIFTPILZ" Very rare book: "Der Giftpilz" ("The Poison Mushroom"), by Ernst Hiemer with illustrations by Philipp Rupprecht ("Fips"), published by notorious anti-Semite publiosher Julius Streicher, through his Verlag Der Sturmer, Nuremberg, 1938. 64pp. 4to., cloth and paper covers, with 17 color plates. The text and images are extremely offensive, including one beneath a sinister-looking figure passing out candy to children: "The Experience of Hans and Else with a Strange Man: ''Here, kids, I have some candy for you. But you both have to come with me''...", and one beneath a young boy showing a lady a mushroom in the forest: "The Poisonous Mushroom: ''Just as it is often hard to tell a toadstool from an edible mushroom, so too it is often very hard to recognize the Jew as a swindler and criminal''...". Julius Streicher, the Nazi publisher of the anti-Semitic newspaper "Der Sturmer", issued "Der Giftpilz" to generate anti-Semitism among young children by wrapping hateful, corrosive lies about Jews in the form of a traditional children''s storybook. Today, its naked propaganda is shockingly apparent, but at the time, it was just one step in the Nazis'' feverish rush toward the complete destruction of all Jews. Following war''s end, American soldiers gathered all copies of these books they could find and destroyed them. This particular copy bears some soiling and wear to the covers, largely at the ends of the spine, and there is some scattered foxing within, otherwise in very good condition.

JULIUS STREICHER INSCRIBES A BOOK TO HIS JEWISH PSYCHIATRIST (1885 - 1946) Nazi journalist and politician, editor of "Der Sturmer" and virulent anti-Semite, executed at Nuremburg. An absolutely incredible association piece, an anti-Semitic book presented by Streicher to his Jewish-American Nuremberg court-appointed psychiatrist! The book, "Hofjuden" ("Court Jew"), was written by Peter Deeg (Nurnberg: Verlag Der Sturmer), 1938. 547pp. 8vo. in blue cloth with gilt title along with gold "Crown" and "Star of David" emblems on cover. The front flyleaf is boldly inscribed: "Mister Dr. Goldensohn In remembrance of our meeting at Nuremberg 1. April 1946 Julius Streicher". Cracked at gutters, with two library stamps indicating that Streicher had someone bring this "relevant" book to him specifically to gift, and to clearly mock, Dr. Goldensohn! Overall very good. Leon N. Goldensohn (1911-1961) was an American psychiatrist who monitored the mental health of the 21 defendants awaiting trial at Nuremberg in 1946. Goldensohn was the son of Jews who had emigrated from Lithuania. He spent more than six months visiting the prisoners nearly every day. including Streicher. "Hofjuden", for which Streicher wrote the foreword, examines the influence of Jews in European royal courts. The text also incorporates over fifty 50 photographs and a large fold-out chart which traces the lineage of the Rothschild and Goldschmidt families, showing their relationship to Jews in the employ of specific European royal families.
