          The portrait depicts a seated gentleman who is identified on the back as "Andrew Jackson Flick" born in Philadelphia PA in 1813, and died April 6th 1896. The painting is done on canvas and is framed in a period frame having been fully restored in 1960. The painting is signed on the lower right "R. Street" and framed in a period possibly original frame. Consigned by a relative of the man in the image. Measurements: 31.5"L x 3.5"D x 36"T

The back of the frame retains a printed paper label reading Museum of Fine Arts / Karolik 271 Robert Street, / Miss Molly Monroe. According to records of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Maxim Karolik (1893-1963) loaned this portrait to the museum from August 1954 until June 1964. Karolik was an early champion of American Folk Art and is largely responsible for cultivating the category within the MFA's permanent collection. This lot is located in Cincinnati. Provenance: Maxim Karolik, New York; R.H. Love Galleries, Chicago; thence acquired by the present owner.
