    Zwei ganzfigurige Porträts eines Nürnberger Patrizierpaares. 2 Gouachen, wohl auf Pergament, goldgehöht, mit goldfarbener Einfassung, auf Velin aufgezogen. 17,2 x 11 cm und 17,1 x 10,8 cm. Das Porträt des Herren signiert und datiert unten rechts "G. Strauch. Pinxit Anno 1662. M. Junj". Der Zeichner, Maler, Radierer und Emailmaler Georg Strauch beginnt seine Ausbildung 1628 bei Johann Hauer. 1635 wird er in Nürnberg als Meister zugelassen. Die erhaltenen frühen Bildnisminiaturen verraten sein schon in jungen Jahren hervorragendes künstlerisches Können. Ein großer Teil seines Werkes sind Vorlagen für Kupferstiche und Radierungen, als Stecher seiner Vorlagen seien Peter Troschel, Andreas Kohl, Melchior Küsel und Jakob von Sandrart genannt. Seine zahlreichen repräsentative Bildnisse sind meist Brust- oder Halbfiguren. "Strauch war bereits zu Lebzeiten als Künstler höchster Qualität bekannt. Hervorzuheben sind insbes. (...) die ebenso naturnahe wie von persönlichem Einfühlungsvermögen geprägte Umsetzung seiner Porträts." (Verena Bestle-Hofmann, in: De Gruyter Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon, Bd. 106, S. 398, Berlin/Boston 2020). Eines der wenigen Ölbilder von seiner Hand (Bildnis einer Dame mit Blumen, 23 x 18 cm, datiert 1664) bewahrt das Germanische Nationalmuseum Nürnberg (Inv.Nr. Gm1454). Analog zu unserer Gouache trägt die Unbekannte ein zweiteiliges Kleid aus rotem Rock und schwarzem, schleifenverziertem Oberteil, dazu eine schwarze Schürze. Aus den vorne offenen, mit schwarzen Schleifen zusammengehaltenen Ärmeln quellen bauchige weiße Unterärmel hervor. Über den Schultern ein flacher Kragen mit breitem Spitzenrand, darüber ein zweiter schmaler schwarzer Spitzenkragen und eine Halskette. Sie trägt eine mit Silber und Goldblüten bestickte Haube. In der Hand hält sie eine Narzisse und eine rote Tulpe. Links auf einem Tisch ein Paar Lederhandschuhe mit weiß-roten Bändern. In der vorliegenden Gouache trägt die Dame ihre Lederhandschuhe in der linken Hand. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

    Monogrammed lower right in a cartouche: GSt; inscribed at bottom center: PAULUS SCHITZ 1671 (in mirror writing) Framed under glas Georg Strauch began his training with the Nuremberg painter, draughtsman and engraver Johann Hauer in 1628. On 8 September 1635, Strauch was admitted as a master in Nuremberg. He mainly produced drawings for engravings and etchings. The present sheet is also to be understood as such a work, which explains the mirror-inverted lettering.
