They form a diptych of Siberian tiger cubs leaning over a thick branch of a birch. Their portrait-like appearance is very typical for the artist’s style which requires great artistic skills. The works are in very good condition with only minimal marks, where the frames have rubbed. They are both signed; one at the lower right ‘WILLEM S DE BEER’, the other in the same way at the lower left. The wooden frames only show minimal traces of age and use and measure 51 x 61 cm, each. The stretchers respectively measure 35.5 x 45.5 cm. Willem Sternberg de Beer (born 1941) Willem Sternberg de Beer was born in Transvaal in 1941 and studied at the University of Pretoria, before dedicating himself exclusively to painting. In 1985, he moved to the United Kingdom. Works by Willem Sternberg de Beer are found today in the collection of the British Royal Family. Numerous solo exhibitions, such as in the New York Sportsman's Edge Gallery, present his works. Being a member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists, he is mostly known for his extremely vibrant animal paintings.
