The Russian artist Nina Sergeevna Stenshinskaya was born in Tambov and studied at the Stroganov School in Moscow. She became a successful still life painter and followed the Expressionism. She was married to the artist Grigorii Alexandrovich Sretensky (1899-1972) and belonged to different artist's groups in Moscow. Examples of her paintings can be found at the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and at the Tretjakov Gallery in Moscow.

S.’ as well as titled and dated in Cyrillic ‘Blooming Pear Tree 71’ on the reverse Dimensions: 59,5 x 80,5 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany The Russian artist repeatedly painted blooming fruit trees in atmospheric landscapes; in 2010 one of her paintings fetched up to €10,000 at an international auction The present painting was made in 1971 and impressively introduces into the artistic output of the Russian artist Nina Sergeevna Stenshinskaya. The work is characterized by a loose, broadly spaced brushwork and reveals a blooming pear tree in the center. Nina Stenshinskaya was specialized in still life painting and only occasionally presented landscape views. It is possible that she then also painted motifs she had found in her familiar environment. The painting is signed in Cyrillic lower right ‘Stenshinskaya N. S.’. It is additionally signed in Cyrillic on verso ‘Stenshinskaya N. S.’ as well as titled and dated ‘Blooming Pear Tree 71’. The canvas is relined along the edges and shows tiny areas of craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals a small retouched scratch in the upper left corner. Besides, the painting is in good overall condition. The stretcher measures 59.5 x 80.5 cm.
