Yaakov Steinhart Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Ya'akov Steinhart (1887-1968) was born in Germany. He attended the Schools of Art in Berlin and Paris, and studied painting with Lovis Corinth and engraving with Hermann Struck. He immigrated to Palestine in 1933, with his wife and daughter and settled in Tel Aviv. He later moved to Jerusalem, where in 1934 he opened an art school. There he taught until 1949. During the years 1940-1957 he was a teacher at "Bezalel". He served as the director of the school for two years (1953-1955). Steinhart won many prizes, among them the first prize of the international Biennial for graphics in San Paulo (1955) and the Arte Liturgica Prize of the Biennial in Venice (1959).
