Steiner (Rudolf, 1861-1925). A Road to Self-Knowledge and the Threshold of the Spiritual World Steiner (Rudolf, 1861-1925). A Road to Self-Knowledge and the Threshold of the Spiritual World, 1st one-volume edition, London & New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1922, scattered minor spotting, upper hinge slightly cracked, bookplate of Sunfield to front pastedown with bookseller ticket of B. H. Blackwell at foot, together with Metamorphoses of the Soul, Rendered into English by G. Metaxa from a Text Unrevised by the Author, Edited by H[arry] Collison, London: H. Collison, [1931], scattered minor spotting, pencil signature of David Clement to front free endpaper and bookseller ticket of Rudolf Steiner Bookshop to front pastedown, both original dark blue cloth gilt, slightly rubbed, 8vo QTY: (2) NOTE: Both books are rare. The first title, an authorised English translation edited by Harry Collison was first published in 2 volumes in 1918. The Rudolf Steiner Archive does not appear to have a copy of this book. The second title bears the signature of the theosophist David Clement who purchased Broome Farm in Clent in 1933 and offered it to Sunfield for student land training. It exists today as Sunfield Independent Specialist School and children's home. A later edition was published in 1945 by the Rudolf Steiner Publishing Co., in conjunction with the Anthroposophic Press New York. Harry Collison (1868-1945) worked as a publisher and translator. From 1913 Steiner delegated the task of coordinating the translations to him, as well as arranging their publication. He also vested the English language copyright in him contractually, thus granting him authority for publication not only in Britain, but also in America and the rest of the English-speaking world.

          STEINER RUDOLF: (1861-1925)

          Est: €3,000 - €4,000

STEINER RUDOLF: (1861-1925) Austrian Philosopher & Social Reformer. A rare A.Q.S., Rudolf Steiner, on a small 8vo page removed from an autograph album, Goetheanum, Dornach, 7th December 1919, in German. Signed by Steiner to the right edge of the page. A few slight tape stains to the right edge, close to, but not affecting the signature and just touching part of the place. G Steiner's proverb, signed at the world centre for the anthroposophical movement in Switzerland, a building which he designed and named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is loosely translated as follows - 'In prehistoric days / came to the spirit of heaven / the spirit of being on earth / he asked pleadingly: / I know how to speak / with the human spirit; / But around that language too / I implore / Through whom knows how to speak / The world heart to the human heart. / Then the benevolent heavenly spirit gave / The earthly spirit asking: / Art'.

Vintage gelatin silver print. 10,3 x 17,2 cm. Annotated in ink on the verso.

Rudolf Steiner: Controversial and prolific Austrian writer and philosopher (1861-1925) who founded such disciplines as anthroposophy, biodynamic agriculture, eurythmy, and Waldorf education. In fine condition, with last name of signature on the front obscured by the printed lettering on the mount, and a few scattered light surface marks. This item is of particular present-day relevance in that many of the financial institutions that are thriving in the current worldwide financial climate use Steiner's ideals concerning "social finance" as their foundation. Incidentally, this brand of economic theory favored by Dr. Steiner is primarily concerned with promulgating social responsibility.
