Katherine (Kate) Steiger Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Katherine ( Kate ) Steiger developed her original technique of mixed media painting while a student at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. After graduating and working as a textile designer in New York City for several years, she moved to the Washington, DC area and began exhibiting her paintings in galleries and working for a graphic design firm. Steiger went on to have over twenty one-woman shows in the Washington, DC area.

After living and working on the East Coast for most of her career, Kate Steiger relocated to the Seattle area in 2007. Her new studio in the charming seaside town of Edmonds gave her the opportunity to work on larger canvases and continue her exploration of color, pattern and collage. Finding inspiration in the evocative landscape of the Pacific Northwest and it's Asian influences, she began to explore new techniques and subject matter and participate in the rich artistic and cultural life of the area.

Kate received a Best of Show award in the Parklane Gallery of Kirkland 2010 Contemporary Art juried show, the 2nd prize Painting award in the 2012 Edmonds Art Festival as well as an award in the 2013 EAFA Juried Abstract show at the Seattle Design Center. Steiger's work has been juried into exhibits at numerous Seattle galleries as well as the Schack Art Center. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, including the Stanford University Medical Center, The National Institute of Mental Health, Hilton Hotel and the Purina Corporation. She has participated in the USA State Department's "Art in Embassy" program.

The Seattle Times described Kate Steiger's "Buried Treasure" exhibit as "a beautiful amalgamation of memory and imagination". Kate's painting "Poppies" was featured in the February 2010 Luxe Interior + Design magazine, and one of her Moroccan Door paintings was recently selected for "Between the Lines" ECC art publication. The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA, selected one of Steiger?s landscape paintings as cover art for their 2013 Alumni Magazine.

Artist's Statement

Every day brings new inspiration and joy to me as I work on the paintings for my latest exhibits. I am passionate about creating an increasingly intricate and rich painterly surface. I want people to keep discovering new images, hidden symbols and surprises in my work, keeping my paintings ever fresh and exciting and unique. I am ever conscious of the words of Edgar Degas, "Art is not what you see, but what you make other's see."
