      Artist: PERCY ANGELO STAYNES (1875-1953) Size: 24 1/2 x 39 3/8 in./62 x 100 cm Old Poseidon is having great fun in his bathtub with his little toy boat, which is one of Canadian Pacific's "Duchesses of the Atlantic," as the cruise line's two-funneled ships were called. Launched in the late '20s, all four were pressed into service during World War II as troop ships, but only the Duchess of Bedford and the Duchess of Richmond would survive. This poster was for the Belgian market. Staynes, for his part, painted watercolors, and designed WWII posters for the British campaign against German U-Boats. (Ships)
