    Born in Calgary in 1944 and studied with Hungarian painter Michael Gergdy from 1960 to 1962. In 1963, he moved to Vancouver, BC. In 1966, he held his first one-man show at the Georgia Gallery in Vancouver. The in 1967 and 1968 he participated in group shows at Warwick Gallery and Ohler’s Gallery respectively. In 1969, Richards moved to Powell River where he met Jack Wise and Egbert Oudendag. Jack Wise introduced him to the world of Batik and even commissioned a set of batik sails for his sailboat. Richards is represented in collections in England, Switzerland, the USA and throughout Canada. His paintings can be found in the permanent collection at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
