Circle of Eberhard Stammel, German 1833-1906- A gentleman lighting his pipe; and A woman drinking a bowl of coffee; the first oil on canvas, the second oil on board, each signed with monogram (lower right), the first dated '74' (lower right), each 24 x 20 cm., each bears partial label attached to the reverse of the frame, two (2). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The depiction of a man smoking a pipe exhibits a striking similarity to Stammel's treatment of the same composition which sold at Bonhams, California, on 11 May 2008 (lot 4047), with the present lot likely inspired by Stammel's work.

Eberhard Stammel, German 1833-1906- The Morning Sun; oil on canvas, laid to canvas-backed board, signed and dated 'E. Stammel / 1877' (lower right), bears old labels attached to the upper stretcher bar, 26 x 31 cm. Provenance: Property from a European Private Collection. Note: The present painting is typical of Stammel's work, with the artist completing multiple, almost identical versions of this same composition on various occasions. This scene, depicting two figures who appear to be being awoken from a night of revelry by the rays of the morning sun, has allowed the artist to show off his technical ability, finely rendering the assortment of glasses, pipes, and silverware which glimmer in the sunlight, having evidently been strewn about the room the previous evening.

Stammel regularly exhibited in Berlin, Dusseldorf and Munich. Some of his works were purchased by prominent buyers, for example Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Stammel / Dusseldorf' Modern decorative frame Overall dimensions, with frame: 69 x 59.5 cm Good condition Provenance: German private collection A typical work of the Dusseldorf painter Eberhard Stammel, whose paintings fetch up over 6,000 euros in the international market This painting is the work of the Dusseldorf painter Eberhard Stammel and dates to the late 19th century. It depicts a silversmith in his workshop. In front of him on a table, there are various silver goods. In his raised hand he checks a recently finished figure. Stammel's painting is characterized by a great deal of detail and a fine brush stroke that enhances the representation with a vivid realism in the rendering of the objects and the sitter. The painting is signed upper right, 'E. Stammel / Dusseldorf'. It is in good overall condition with slight framing marks, scattered tiny areas of retouching and minor color losses, mainly in the lower part of the image. There is a patch on the back of the canvas. The gold-colored frame is in very good condition, showing only minor wear. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 69 x 59.5 cm, the stretcher measures 45 x 38.5 cm. Eberhard Stammel (1833-1906) From 1847 to 1852, Eberhard Stammel studied at the Dusseldorf Academy.
