      CARVED IVORY PLAQUE ATTRIBUTED TO DOMINICUS STEINHART (GERMANY, 1655-1712)

      Munich, ca.1700, exquisitely carved bas relief depicting a mother with two infant boys (Leto?) under a tree on the right side, the left side depicting a footbridge and ruins, the top depicts a female archer firing a bow from the clouds; the background depicts a distant village, a cottage and various human figures, including lovers engaged in intercourse; there are various minutely carved animals throughout, including a duck, a turtle, a crane and a snail. Housed in a glass covered molded mahogany shadowbox with an integral bronze back easel. 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 2". Fine condition.
