      Spyers, Berta. 1873-1933 Chemnitz portrait Josephine Spyers, sister of the artist. 1900. Pastel on paper, sign., 56 x 71 cm, framed behind glass in the original Art Nouveau frame. The Chemnitz artist Berta Spyers graduated in painting at the Art Academy in Berlin with Max Liebermann. Between 1910 and 1930 it is listed in the address books of Chemnitz as painting and art teacher. It maintained a studio in the Klosterstraße Äüßeren. Among her students was one among others Irena Zimmermann Rabinowicz. In the present pastel that comes from the family of the painter, portrayed Spyers her deceased older sister in 1901. are attached to the painting, a written guarantee of origin by the great-niece of the painter as well as two photographs,
