March 28 1955" to half-title, original cloth, light fraying to tips of spine and corners, dust-jacket, light browning to spine, chipping and some creasing to head and foot, 8vo, Faber & Faber, 1955. ⁂ A charming association copy. The composer Leonard Bernstein had long been an admirer of Spender's poetry. The two men became friends in the 1940s and took a trip to Taos, New Mexico to stay at a ranch belonging to Frieda Lawrence while Bernstein composed his setting of Auden's Age of Anxiety and Spender composed his autobiography World within World.
