Loaded Ken Spencer Ventriloquist Figure Dummy Used by Bill Bernstein

    Est: $1,200 - $1,800

Ken Spencer figure which was created for and used by Bill Bernstein from Florida. This figure is in great all original condition and does show an expected and acceptable amount of wear on his face and hands. He stands 44" tall and has Ken's particular style ball and socket neck which gives great mobility of the head. His wig is original and is attached at the back of the head so that with a little quick movement the wig flips up. This was don on Mr Bernstein's request. He has side to side non self centering eyes but these eyes also roll to wink or blink. Individual controls. He has slot jaw and upper lip sneer which make him have a very open mouth. He also has raising eyebrows and extreme wiggling ears. This fellow has an elongated nose which gives him a great cartoony look. The body is all original and is made of wood and covered with muslin. The arms and legs are all original with original stuffing. He has a light up bow tie which is controls by a battery box inside the body. An exceptional figure!

  • Ken Spencer Oley Ventriloquist Figure Dummy ca. 1940's Carved Basswood
    Oct. 25, 2015

Ken Spencer Oley Ventriloquist Figure Dummy ca. 1940's Carved Basswood

    Est: $1,200 - $1,400

Ken Spencer was a prolific builder during the heyday of ventriloquism. He learned at about the same time as Marshall. His figures are very distinctive and are of a cartoon nature. If you look at the figures offered by Ken Spencer in his little brochure this guy was called Oley. In the picture of his head he is shown with curly hair and wearing a cap. Oley stands 42" tall and has a rather large carved basswood head. He has side to side weighted moving eyes, raising eyebrows and his right eye winks. Of course he has slot jaw. His wig, plaid cap and paint are all original and have never been touched. You will also notice the very prominent proboscis which is not typical of K1en Spencer. Ken usually had his figures with a pointed turned up nose. His body is Spencer's typical wood framing and wood covered style and the hands are his bulbous shape. The original arms and legs are stuffed muslin. This is just an exceptional example of Mr Spencer's great carving talent.

This Spencer figure is another very fine figure which is in very nice original condition not having had any work done on him since he left the hands of Mr Spencer. This figure has slot jaw, side to side moving eye by way of weight control, each eye also winks and they can blink together and he also has raising eyebrows. His wig is a long wig but it too is original and has never been removed from the head. The original nails are still in place. It unfortunately covers the very nice dish ears. The paint is original and does have some minor rubs and shows a bit of wear. Untouched and just how you like to find them. He has Ken Spencer's signature up-swept pointed nose and ball cheeks. A very nice face indeed. All the controls on this figure are lever except for the raising eyebrows which has a ring pull. Spencer did use a combination of both in his multi function figures. The height of this figure is 42" and he has all his original muslin arms and legs and the wood hands are also original. Body is wooden and has Mr Spencer's typical V shapes ball and socket.
