Édition originale de cette magnifique et très rare iconographie des mollusques et coquillages fossiles. Important ensemble comprenant 64 monographies illustrées de 234 planches finement coloriées, dessinées et lithographiées par G. B. Sowerby II (1812-1884), sur les 530 que réunit une collection complète. Le Thesaurus conchyliorum est un des traités de conchyliologie les plus rares, ayant été publié en 44 parties, auxquelles participèrent trois générations de Sowerby. De la bibliothèque J. D. Stilwell, avec ex-libris. Reliures usagées avec manques et restaurations ; quatrième volume en reliure moderne à l'imitation ; manquent le titre et les pp. 1-2 du premier volume et un feuillet de texte dans deux des monographies. FIRST EDITIONS of some of the seminal works by the eldest of the Sowerby dynasty of conchological illustrators, and one work by a subsequent generation. The elder Sowerby launched The Malacological and Conchological Magazine in 1838, with the intention of forming a society to go along with it. Provenance: Robert Boog Watson [1823-1910]; Conchological Society (bookplates). FIRST EDITION, with title pages, but without the index issued later by Bernard Quaritch. The plates were numbered to 279, but 13 plate numbers were skipped in the original sequence. George Brettingham Sowerby (Sr.) was the son of James Sowerby, the first in a line of natural history illustrators and researchers spanning five generations of the family. (228 x 126 mm.) all overall 15 3/8 x 111/2 in. (390 x 292 mm.) (10).
