Many of the motifs in Song’s paintings are from the traditional context of her homeland Korea. She uses mostly European egg tempera and a Korean gwiyal brush, creating quiet composition with dynamic brushstrokes on canvas. Condition: The painting is in very good condition, showing only minor rubbings to the edges. The dimensions are 144 x 101 cm. Song Hyun-Sook (b. 1952) The South Korean artist Hyun-Sook Song is known for her minimalist paintings which are usually executed with only a few brushstrokes. At the age of 20, Song Hyun-Sook moved to Germany, where she discovered her passion for painting almost accidentally. From 1976 to 1981, she studied at the Academy of Arts in Hamburg, followed by her studies of Korean art history at the Chonnam National University in Gwangju, Korea. She then returned to Hamburg and has since then worked as an artist, illustrator and documentary filmmaker. In her paintings, the artist intends to combine Western and Eastern elements of art.
