Ron Solonas Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1958 -

Ron Solonas (Tsekani First Nation, b. 1958). According to one of the informative biographical entries attached to the verso of this piece, "Ron Solonas is a Canadian Indian. He was born into the Sekani tribe in 1958 at Pouce Coupe, in North Eastern British Columbia. Ron is entirely self taught and has been drawing and painting since he was eight years old. He recalls having his knuckles rapped in school on many occasions, for drawing instead of studying. His simple, beautiful art captures scenes from his childhood memories of pow wow dancers, the magnificent eagles and the creatures of the forest with which he was so familiar."

Solanas' art has also been published. For example, his drawing of a cougar was used to illustrate the cover of Graeme Gibson's Bedside Book of Beasts, Doubleday Canada.
