      Aug. 25, 2023

Stan Solomon Neo Geo Painted Cubes & Pedestal (2006)

      Est: $1,200 - $1,800

Stan Solomon (American, b. 1946). Untitled painted wooden cubes, spacer & wooden pedestal, 2006. Signed and dated on both cubes. A mesmerizing artwork by "neo-geo" artist Stan Solomon comprised of four pieces: two painted cubes, a black square spacer set between the cubes, and a painted four-legged pedestal stand with a woven fiber upper surface. The painted compositions on the 4 side faces of the smaller cube each feature floating colorful celestial orbs that connote outer space and lead the viewer's gaze to an arched window with a surreal, futuristic landscape beyond, all in a view of an interior with a black and white checkerboard floor delineated in linear perspective and a wall of either blue, green, pink, or orange hues. The top face of that cube presents a single yellow orb floating upon a circle embellished with a black, grey, and white checkerboard pattern surrounded by quadrants or blue, green, pink, and orange that continue from the side faces. The paintings on the 4 side faces of the larger cube each present brightly colored tropical fish swimming among aquatic plants that are just as colorful, all framed by a black and white checkerboard border. The top face of that cube presents a lone black-dotted coral pink seashell on a circle within a square that are both embellished with a black and white checkerboard motif. The bottom faces of both cubes present quadrants in black and white. Finally, the wooden pedestal stand is embellished with a black and white checkerboard pattern against a black ground, and its upper surface is embellished with tightly woven fibers. A magnificent piece by the one and only Stan Solomon. Size: 12" L x 12" W x 62.75" H (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm x 159.4 cm) About the artist: "Born in New York City and living in St. Louis, Missouri, Stan Solomon works with acrylic paint and creates images in a style best described as neo-geo. After The Brooks Institute, Stan taught photography at Every Woman's Village. A career in freelance Photography occupied five years of Stan's creative endeavors. A Renaissance man in the truest sense, Stan Solomon is a self-taught artist. Energetic colors and shapes define vividly detailed background spaces. Bold chroma acrylics define a signature theme that echoes throughout the breadth of this artist's prolific body of work." (askART) Provenance: private Goldstein collection, Denver, Colorado, USA.
