When the communists came to power in Czechoslovakia, Sokol returned to the US where he settled in a Philadelphia suburb. During this time, he developed his signature graphic art style. Many of Sokol’s works bear the signature of the family dog, Sambo. Shortly after celebrating his 100th birthday, Sokol died in Arizona. He is celebrated as one of Slovakia’s most eminent artists.
