(b Toronto, Canada 1929) Canadian artist. Michael Snow works in a wide range of media including paint, film, photography, and music. He is especially known for his innovations in film technology. His films have won awards including the 1982 Los Angeles Film Critics Award for his piece “So Is This.” He studied at the Ontario College of Art and at Upper Canada College. In 1982 he received the Order of Canada. He taught at Yale University as Professor of Advanced Film and was a visiting professor at Princeton University and at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 2000 he received the prestigious Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts.
