      • WELLS FARGO SMITH & WESSON SCHOFIELD REVOLVER
        Mar. 11, 2023

WELLS FARGO SMITH & WESSON SCHOFIELD REVOLVER

        Est: $3,000 - $4,000

SERIAL 901. BARREL 5". CALIBER .45. First Model. These US marked guns were purchased from the government by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham and Francis Bannerman & Company, both of New York. Many of these guns were subsequently altered by having their 7” barrels cut down to 5”.The single largest customer for these altered Schofield revolvers was the Wells Fargo Express Company, who marked the guns W.F. & CO'S. EX. when they purchased them. This stamp can be seen on the right side of the barrel along with the serial number 901. Gun still has the US stamp on butt. The serial number on the cylinder is 715 and was probably so fitted when converted as the finish matches perfectly. This gun was blued, not nickeled and still retains the original walnut grips but the cartouche stamps are no longer visible. Condition. All metal is a homogenous smooth patina. All legends are sharp. Action is crisp. ANTIQUE
