Anna Deacon married George Courthope Esq. Of Whiligh in January 1841. She was the eldest daughter of John Deacon of Mabledon, Tonbridge. Deacon made his fortune in Deacon's Bank and bought Mabledon from the Burton family in 1828.

George Whitmore), Sophia Deacon, Frances Deacon (later married Col. Arthur Ramsden of Steneness, Ashurst), John Deacon (later married Miss Lucy K. Pym of The Hasells, Bedfordshire), Ellen Bassano Deacon, William Samuel Deacon (late married Miss Mary Sophia Currie), Harriet Deacon (later married Rev. Thomas Carr), Lucy Deacon and Catherine Charlotte Deacon (later married Rev. Henry A. Hammond). All signed and dated 1838 or 1839, Various sizes. Together with a quantity of loose watercolours, prints and drawing of various subjects (qty). Provenance: Lord Courthope, Whiligh, Wadhurst, East Sussex; thence by descent. The Courthope family are believed to have owned land in Wadhurst as early as 1272. The Whiligh Estate has been in the possession of the Courthope family since the 14th century, with parts of the current house dating back to 16th century with Georgian additions. It is believed that oak from the Whiligh Estate was used in the construction of Westminster Hall in the Houses of Parliament. Oak was again obtained from the Whiligh Estate for repairs to Westminster Hall roof following bomb damage in the Second World War.
