Mark Sinckler Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1970 -

Mark Sinckler was born in London in 1970. As a self-taught artist, in his adolescence Sinckler became a prominent figure in London’s vibrant graffiti art scene in the 1980s before going on to a successful career teaching and collaborating with young artists across the United Kingdom.

Since 2008, Sinckler has reinvented his creative process, stripping back layers to form a connection to the primal and ancestral through large-scale drawings. Working mostly in charcoal, his latest work explores how archetypal image and structural notions of urban life may converge, forming surreal expressions of hinted at narratives in landscapes, scenes and portraiture as a critique of the paradoxical state of belief and perception.

Following on from the hugely successful group exhibition at the Atom Rooms entitled ‘The Architects’, in 2011 Sinckler was invited by the artist Banksy to show a version of his seminal piece, ‘Age of Shiva‘ at the ‘Marks & Stencils‘ annual show. This important work captured the imagination of the world’s press and public alike and typifies Sinckler’s interest in the interpretation of visual media through his ‘Faith and Physicality’ series.
