Biography

Katy Simpson graduated from NCAD in 1998 with a first class degree in Fine Art Painting. Since then she has held many successful solo exhibitions and been exhibited widely in invited group exhibitions including Eurojet Futures at the RHA gallery in 2001 and 2005.

Simpson’s paintings hold a narrative. But they explore a narrative that resists closure and one single truth that hints at the multi-faceted possibilities of individual experience through memory, time and space. The images rely on contiguity, the contingency of a detail, for meaning. Meaning does not lie in one single complete picture but is defined by what has gone before and what follows.

Commissioned art projects also include a series of paintings and portraits for the award winning RTE documentary series 'States of Fear'. Her work is included in many private and public collections.
