    Est: $550 - $825

**Originally Listed At $300** Jack Silverman (American, 1940-2017). Artist's proof - serigraph, 20th C. Silverman Museum embossed stamp on lower left. Signed by the artist on the lower right. A stunning artist proof by Jack Silverman depicting a beautiful Acoma pottery vessel of a classic form and meticulously decorated with a repeated star pattern, each stellar motif housing countless fine black and white striations. The Acoma artisans are known for their beautiful terracotta ollas that are handbuilt via the traditional coil-and-scrape method and painstakingly decorated, as we see depicted in Silverman's composition. Size of print: 12" L x 11" W (30.5 cm x 27.9 cm) Size of frame: 17.125" L x 15.125" W (43.5 cm x 38.4 cm) Jack Silverman was an artist as well as a scholar and collector of Native American art and culture. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he lived and created art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Silverman began making serigraphs in 1974 in order to create studies of his textile collection. He also amassed a wonderful collection of the finest Pueblo and Navajo textiles and pottery. According to his obituary, "In 1971 he moved to Aspen where he would begin his passion and pursuit of Native American culture and art of the Southwest. Jack traveled extensively throughout the Southwest, studying and buying art from the Pueblo Indians, ultimately putting together one of the world’s great collections of Native American weaving and pottery. He depicted his collection in a series of serigraphs, art cards and other print work that he sold around the country and online. Jack developed the Silverman Museum (silvermanmuseum.com) as a vehicle to share his love for the Indian culture. He published; “Pueblo Treasure” and “Pueblo Indian Pottery” coupled with shows of his collection at museums and galleries. Jack found a natural outlet for his showmanship … he became the bridge to help the public understand the culture and art of the Southwest Native Americans."
