      Farnam, Suzanne Silvercruys (Belgian/American, 1898-1973) Figure of a Woman, 1920s/1930s, patinated bronze figure on octagonal plinth, incised signature at rear plinth, no apparent foundry mark, 16.5 x 4.25 x 4.25 inches, including the base. Suzanne Silvercruys Farnam earned a BA in fine arts at Yale University and had a career as a professional sculptor specializing in busts of notable persons, including Ralph Pickard Bell, first Chancellor of Mount Allison University.

      Suzanne Silvercruys (District of Columbia/Arizona, 1898-1973) JOHN BUCHAN, LORD TWEEDSMUIR, GOVERNOR GENERAL OF CANADA,1938 bronze, signed, dated with Roman Bronze Works stamp, & inscribed: OTTAWA overall H20 1/2" Provenance: Estate of Starkey S. Flythe, Jr. Augusta, Georgia Other Notes: As Governor General from 1935-40, Buchan (1875-1940) carried out the constitutional and ceremonial duties of the three British kings (George V, Edward VIII, & George VI) that ruled from 1935 until Buchan's death in 1940. The commission of this portrait bust remains a mystery though it is logged in the Roman Bronze Works records as a single casting in March 1938. A noted sculptor, Silvercruys' bronze of Father Eusebio Kino (1645-1711) was given by Arizona in 1965 to the National Statuary Hall Collection in the US Capitol.
