    • SHUGETSU: LUCKY GOD HOTEI AND BOY
      Nov. 22, 2014

SHUGETSU: LUCKY GOD HOTEI AND BOY

      Est: - €1,200

Netsuke, wood. Japan, 19th cent. The large bellied lucky god is sitting and leaning against a sack. He is laughing only slightly and amusingly showing a little pain in his face, as the boy sitting on top of the sack examines his ear. On account of the excited facial expression he is making, he must have discovered something in there, or maybe he just wants to dig into it. The Karako (Chinese boy, due to the clothing and two round hair knots) likewise, is rendered very lively, but also the bow around the sack and the godly tubby anyhow. Underneath is an unusually large himotoshi-opening, next to it the signature SHU-GETSU. Very good condition, patina.WIDTH 4,1 CMFrom a German private collection
