Alyson Shotz is an American artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1987 and an MFA from the University of Washington in 1991.

Alyson Shotz investigates concepts of space, light and perception with sculptures made from a range of synthetic materials such as mirror, glass beads, plastic lenses, thread and steel wire.

In The New York Times, Karen Rosenberg wrote: "Ms. Shotz evokes natural phenomena with accumulations of beads, pins and other common materials...Often they respond to the challenge of visualizing concepts from theoretical physics (string theory, dark matter)."

Her works are in the collections of The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art.

(25.4 x 35.6 cm) Very good condition Estimate: $5,000-$7,000 Alyson Shotz is a celebrated mid career sculptor who is best known for work that addresses aspects of space, light, volume, time, and movement. She has often been inspired by concepts from theoretical physics (string theory and dark matter). This beautiful hanging glass bead sculpture reflects light in all types of installation environments. It looks stunningly transparent and reflective in different kinds of cast light. This piece should be installed from a ceiling with transparent line. Shotz has had major solo exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA. the Phillips Collection, Washington D.C., the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana and the Eli and Edythe Broad Museum, Michigan. She is celebrated internationally, having been recently selected to participate in the 2015 edition of the Art Basel Parcours. This piece is one from a variant edition, meaning each work from the edition has its’ own unique qualities. Alyson Shotz (American, b. 1964) Shotz is an American artist whose interest lies in exploring the natural world surrounding her. Through a variety of media, she explores the elements of space, light and perception creating sculptures and prints made from materials such as mirror, glass, reflecting plastics and steel. In 1987 she received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and later went on to receive her MFA from the University of Washington.
