Recent portraits have been highly auto biographical featuring family friends and self-portraits. George’s distinctive style, full of life and energy, is also represented in landscapes and "still life" studies. Heavily featured are scenes surrounding his farmhouse home in Lincolnshire. George Shirlaw paints directly from his experience of the subject, using visual sensations in primary forms together with emotional and often explosive use of colour and line.
