Having trained initially in Edinburgh and then London, he worked in both cities and in his home region around Kelso for most of his life. The Lonk, carefully bred over 200 years in the Pennines - the flock book was started in 1905 - is a particularly handsome, more powerfully built version of the ubiquitous black-faced hill sheep of the northern counties
