Dmitri Anfimovich Sherbinovskij Sold at Auction Prices

Dimitry Sherbinovsky/Chtcherbinovski was an important Russian post-impressionist, born in Petrovsk. His name is spelled variously in translation (as "Chtcherbinovksi"). An 1891 graduate of the State University at Moscow, he subsequently entered the Russian Academy of Fine Arts & there was a favorite student of Pavel Tchistiakov and of Ilya Repine. Afterward (1898) he painted & studied in Paris at the Academie Julian under Tony Tober-Fleury, one of the few Russians to do so. he returned to Russia in 1900 and taught at St. Petersburg in the State Academy of Art & Industry. After 1915, he was a member of the "Ambulants" movement, at whose exhibitions his work was represented. His work is in the collection of several Russian museums.
