DAVID 'CHIM' SEYMOUR (1911–1956)| Tereska, drewing a picture of 'home', Warsaw, Poland 1948 Image Size: 55,7 x 46,1 cm English: Gelatin silver print, printed 1989 by Igor Bakht S Custom Photo Lab on double-weight semi-matte paper 60,5 x 50,5 cm, in excellent condition. From original "In our Time" exhibition set. Magnum's exhibition blindstamp in the margin at lower right, Magnum's photographer copyright stamp on the reverse. LITERATURE William Manchester (ed.), In our Time. The world as seen by Magnum photographers, London 1989, p. 422. Seymour was commissioned by UNESCO in 1948 to photograph children in five European countries, including his native Poland, where he learned that almost his entire family had been murdered by the Nazis. He met Tereska in a primary school for children affected by the war, when she drew a picture on the blackboard on the theme "This is Home". When it was first published in LIFE magazine, the subtitle was "Children's wounds are not all outward. Those made in the mind by years of sorrow will take years to heal." Edward Steichen chose the photograph for his legendary exhibition The Family of Man. The tragic story of this girl was researched in 2017 when a charity foundation used her name. Tereska was the daughter of a resistance fighter, was injured in the head by a bomb splinter when she was 4, survived the destruction of her home, the death of her family, flight and starvation with severe mental impairment. *Item is fully Taxed Deutsch: Silbergelatineabzug, geprintet 1989 vom Igor Bakht S Custom Photo Lab auf halbmattem "double-weight" Papier 60,5 x 50,5 cm, in ausgezeichnetem Zustand. The world as seen by Magnum photographers, London 1989, S. 422. *Vollbesteuert.

          DAVID ‘CHIM’ SEYMOUR (1911–1956)

          Est: €1,400 - €1,800

DAVID ‘CHIM’ SEYMOUR (1911–1956) | Tereska, drawing a picture of home, Poland, Warsaw 1948 Image Size: 30,3 x 23,7 cm English: Gelatin silver print, printed in 1982 on double-weight semi-matte paper, in excellent condition. Blindstamp “Chim” in the lower margin, edition stamp “This print is issued as part of the David Seymour-Chim 1982 portfolio” with handwritten entries “print #5, edition 71/100” on the reverse. Wooden frame. Seymour was commissioned by UNESCO in 1948 to photograph children in five European countries, including his native Poland, where he learned that almost his entire family had been murdered by the Nazis. He met Tereska in a primary school for children affected by the war, when she drew a picture on the blackboard on the theme “This is Home”. When it was first published in LIFE magazine, the subtitle was “Children’s wounds are not all outward. Those made in the mind by years of sorrow will take years to heal.” Edward Steichen chose the photograph for his legendary exhibition The Family of Man. The tragic story of this girl was researched in 2017 when a charity foundation used her name. Tereska was the daughter of a resistance fighter, was injured in the head by a bomb splinter when she was 4, survived the destruction of her home, the death of her family, flight and starvation with severe mental impairment. *Full taxable. Deutsch: Gelatinesilberabzug, geprintet 1982 auf "double-weight" halbmattem Papier, in ausgezeichnetem Zustand. Blindstempel "Chim" im unteren Rand, Editionsstempel "This print is issued as part of the David Seymour-Chim 1982 portfolio" mit handschriftlichen Eintragungen "print #5, edition 71/100" auf der Rückseite. Those made in the mind by years of sorrow will take years to heal. *Vollbesteuert.
