Frans van Severdonck (Brussels 1809-1889) was a well-known Belgian painter, who lived and worked in Brussels and mainly painted genre paintings and landscapes with cows, sheep and poultry. He is one of the followers of the Belgian cattle painter Eugène Verboeckhoven, who came to live in Brussels in 1827 and achieved great success with his livestock pieces at the Salon. Livestock pieces were a very popular genre throughout the 19th century. In Belgium, Frans van Leemputten and Remy Maes were also followers of Verboeckhoven, in the Netherlands Albertus Verhoesen. The painting shows a beautiful scene with a bull, two cows, two sheep and ducks swimming in the foreground. It is a beautiful panoramic representation that puts the livestock in the center of view due to the composition used. At the bottom center, the painting is signed and dated 1878. On the back are two labels with a declaration of authenticity of the panel made by Frans van Severdonck.
