      Est: €1 - €500

Copperplate on paper Strasbourg/France, 1686 Friedrich Wilhelm Schmuck Johann Adam Seupel (1662-1717) – French painter and engraver Dimensions: 52 x 36.5 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 500 EUR This is a gorgeous, very rare representation of the monumental Baroque high altar in Strasbourg. Its extraordinary feature is a column canopy stilted with crown. The altar was made during the recatholisation of the Strasbourg cathedral under the bishop William Egon of Fürstenberg. The engraving was made by the French artist Johann Adam Seupel and printed by Friedrich Wilhelm Schmuck. The engraving is in a fair condition according to its age. The paper is heavily yellowed and foxed. The edges show tearing and partial material loss. The lower left hand corner is torn. The sheet has vertical and horizontal creases some of which are lacerated. The inscription was added by hand in black ink during the printing process. In the lower right corner the plaet is signed “J. A. Seupel”. The dimensions are 52 x 36.5 cm. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
