(Edo 1851-1918), Rollbild mit Karpfen, der einen Wasserfall hinauf schwimmt. Tusche auf Seide. Sign., nicht dat. (um 1880). Bildgröße: 114,5 x 39 cm; Gesamtgröße: ca. 175 x 52,4 cm. - In Seidenbrokatrahmen. - Watanabe gehört zu den wenigen Künstlern, die in der frühen Meiji-Periode ins Ausland reisten, um hier die westliche Malerei zu studieren. 1878 reiste er in die USA und nach Europa und blieb für drei Jahre in Paris. Auf seinen Bildern vermischen sich anschließend ein europäischer Realismus mit der feinen Farbgebung und Malweise der Kikuchi Yosai-Schule.

Formato: cm 25x16,3. Xilografia a colori. Volume XVIII della rivista d'arte Bijutsu Sekai (Il mondo dell'arte) uscita in 25 numeri tra il 1890 e il 1894 a cura di Watanabe Seitei. La rivista presentava opere di noti maestri contemporanei e del passato. I venticinque numeri furono pubblicati dal 22 dicembre 1890 fino al numero finale del 2 gennaio 1894. Le opere degli artisti ospitati nella rivista includevano quelle dello stesso Seitei, Kawanabe Kyosai (1831-1889), Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892), Kono Bairei (1844-1895), Kobayashi Eitaku (1843-1890), Imao Keinen (1845-1923), Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891) e, tra i maestri del passato, Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806), e Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Il numero finale, il volume 25, era dedicato solo a opere di Seitei. (1)
