      ELLEN SEGNER (1901-2001) Canadian beauty and boxer. Cover illustration for The Toronto Star Weekly, published July 22, 1950. Oil on canvas. 1016x762 mm; 40x30 inches. Signed in lower right image. Some restoration and in-painting applied. Framed. Accompanied by a printed tear sheet of the cover. A classic pin-up bathing beauty painted by one of the few well-known female American illustrators for this cover of the long-running Canadian magazine. Segner was best known for depicting "Little Miss Sunbeam" (the spokesgirl for Quality Bakers' Sunbeam Bread) and the Dick and Jane school readers for Glamour and Look magazines in addition to her portrayals of wholesome-looking cover girls.
