    • Lilith. 1895
      Sep. 06, 2012

      Lilith. 1895

      Est: $800 - $1,000

Artist: GEORGE FREDERICK SCOTSON-CLARK (1873-?) Size: 11 3/8 x 16 3/4 in./29 x 42.5 cm With a hint of Aubrey Beardsley in the design, this poster promotes the early fantasy novel Lilith. A man known only as Mr. Librarian is haunted by a resident of a parallel universe named Mr. Raven (who, incidentally, can turn into an actual raven). After entering this new world via a mirror, Mr. Librarian encounters his father -- who led the original uprising against the universe’s inhabitants -- eternally damned to fighting off an army of skeletons. There is also a House of Beds where dreamers sleep joyously until the end of time, a fleet of Little Ones (giant mentally-deficient babies), and an evil princess named Lilith.
