Auf monochromem Hintergrund in gedeckten Farben kombiniert Schwontkowski schemenhaft zwei Köpfe zu einer rätselhaften Komposition. Norbert Schwontkowski wurde der Kunstwelt erst spät bekannt. Zu Unrecht, wie man merkt, wenn man sich mit seinen hintergründigen, feinsinnigen Werken auseinandersetzt. Sein künstlerisches Werk zeigt Alltägliches und Absurdes, immer in lyrischer, melancholischer Gestimmtheit, auch hintergründiger Humor kennzeichnet seine Arbeiten. Durch die Schichtung monochromer Farbflächen schafft er Bildoberflächen, die im Zusammenhang mit den dargestellten merkwürdigen Figuren und Gegenständen eine besondere Wirkmacht ausüben.
