Paintings of the important Viennese portrait painter Rosa Schweninger fetch more than 13,000 euros on the international market This fine painting is the work of the Austrian painter Rosa Schweninger (1849-1918), and dates to circa 1890. The composition depicts a girl sitting on an armchair, arranging flowers in an interior flooded with sunlight. The painting can be regarded as an allegory of spring, and in relation to it, of the blooming youth. The painting is signed upper right, 'Rosa Schweninger'. It is in good condition with nice fresh colors and minor wear. The paint surface shows slight framing marks. The gilded stucco frame is also in good condition with minor losses to the lower and right side. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 143 x 123 cm. The stretcher measures 101 x 83 cm. Rosa Schweninger (1849-1918) Rosa Schweninger came from a Viennese family of artists and was one of the most important portrait painters of her time. She received her first artistic training with her father, and studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Frederick Sturm from 1869 to 1871. In the following years, she traveled to Munich, where she exhibited numerous works. Since 1879, she regularly attended the Vienna annual exhibition.
