Hans Schwarz, Augsburg 1492 - ca. 1550, circle, Pietas Adomina

        Est: €1,000 - €2,000

Hans Schwarz Augsburg 1492 - ca. 1550, circle Pietas Adomina Around 1550 Bronze cast & engraved in sculptural relief Gilt Height 17 cm, width 12 cm A finely gilded Renaissance Kunstkammer panel depicting the Entombment of Christ. Stylistically, this relief can be attributed to Hans Schwarz, a successful goldsmith and sculptor who began his career in Augsburg, or someone who belonged to his circle. The date of creation is around 1550/70. Comparable examples of such plaques can be found in the Louvre in Paris, in the National Gallery of Art, in the Musee Cluny and others. The prototype on which this frame is based, is originally of Italian origin and was already created in the 15th century. However, the version of the frame interpreted here is an independent creation. Comparatively, the typical frame is used, in which plastic ornamental reliefs as well as an angel's head can be found. The central depiction with the entombment of Christ is also found in the formal language of South German art of this time.
