(1840 Kaufbeuren - 1898 München) Kinderfreuden mit jungen Kätzchen Heimelige, stimmungsvolle Familienszene in einem bäuerlichen Interieur. Sitzend eine junge Bäuerin, die zwei Kätzchen in ihrem Schoß Milch aus einer Schüssel zu trinken gibt, neben bzw. vor ihr stehend zwei Mädchen sowie der zufrieden lächelnde, zuschauende Großvater. Schütze studierte seit 1859 bei Alexander (Sándor) Wagner an der Kunstakademie in München, wo er auch dauerhaft ansässig wurde. Als freier Maler lässt sich Schütze später in seiner Studienstadt nieder. Ein Hauptthema des vor allem als Genremaler tätigen Künstlers waren einfühlsame Schilderungen der unbefangenen Kinderwelt und ländlichen Alltagswelt. Seine in ihrer Lichtführung und im Kolorit subtil ausgeführten Gemälde zeichnen sich auch bei vielfigurigen Szenen durch individuelle Charakterisierungen aus. Vortrefflich schilderte er das Verhalten und das Gemüt der Kinder in Mimik, Gesten und Gebärden. Seit 1866 beschickte er mit seinen Werken die Münchener Ausstellungen. Signed lower right: Wilh. Schütze. München Schütze was particularly fascinated by idyllic motifs. He specialised in charming depictions of peasant and courtly life. Even in populous works such as the present canvas, he still manages to imbue each figure with a distinct personality, expressed in their gestures and facial features. The faces and elegant clothing in this Rococo scene are softly modelled, inkeeping with its palatial surroundings. The girl in the pink dress and the blindfold steps tentatively forward in the hopes of catching one of her companions and making them the next "blind man". Meanwhile the others coax and goad her onwards, always making sure to be one step ahead. The game, which is observed with interest by various onlookers, was enjoyed by both children and adults in 18th century courtly circles.
