Artist: AUGUST SCHMID (1877-1955) Size: 24 7/8 x 37 3/8 in./63 x 95 cm Christoph Reisser, Wien After World War I, Austria began an aggressive ad campaign to encourage tourism to the country. Until 1959, only one image per year was officially published, making the project a huge honor for whichever artist was chosen. Here, Schmid (who created the first poster in the yearly series) gives us a sun-kissed beauty in promotion of South Austria's many skiing destinations.

      Est: $1,000 - $1,200

Artist: AUGUST SCHMID Size: 24 7/8 x 37 1/8 in./63.2 x 94.2 cm Christoph Reisser, Wien Aimed at increasing tourism now that the war was over, this was Austria’s first official travel poster after WWII. The design was originally by Fritz Bernhard for general wintersports in the country; however, Schmid altered the image very slightly, incorporating the “Welcome to Austria” slogan at the bottom in order to speak to a generalized foreign market. Up until 1959, only one image a year was officially published to promote winter travel to all of Austria, this being the first in that series.
