Upper left numbered: "No.308". Date: c. 1850 Description: Together with Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs, Joseph Schlotthauer invented stereochromy. In 1832 he produced a replica of "The Dance of Death" by Hans Holbein the Younger in lithograph, which comprised 53 sheets. In 1859 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of St Michael. In 1860 he became a member of the Munich Society for Christian Art. Raccolta di tutte e 53 le immagini litografiche eseguite dal pittore monacense Schlotthauer per la Hans Holbein's Todtentanz, versione fedele ed ingannevole, edita a Monaco nel 1832, della celebre "danza macabra" cinquecentesca Les Simulachres de la mort con intagli di Hans Lützelburger da disegni di Hans Holbein il giovane. Il titolo al frontespizio Imagines mortis Duodecim Imaginibus praeter priores...cumulatae, allude all'edizione francese del 1547. Esemplari rifilati alla doppia linea d'inquadramento ed applicati a pieno su fogli di sottile carta vergellata, poi rilegati in pelle con impressioni in oro. Singolare vademecum assemblato in epoca moderna, di moniti sulla caducità e brevità della vita.

      Die Auffindung des Mosesknaben. Bleistift auf Velin mit gestanztem Zierrahmen auf Goldpapier. 11,5 x 8,5 cm. Joseph Schlotthauer, Gehilfe von Peter Cornelius bei der Ausstattung der Glyptothek, wurde anschließend Professor für Malerei an der Münchner Akademie. Seine Werke, die praktisch kaum im Handel angeboten werden, reflektieren deutlich den Einfluss der Nazarener. Montiert in ein Rähmchen aus gestanztem Goldpapier. - Beigegeben ein Marie Ellenrieder zugeschriebenes Aquarell "Märtyrerin in Wolken" sowie eine weitere Zeichnung eines nazarenischen Künstlers "Konradin von Hohenstaufen verabschiedet sich von seiner Mutter". - Literatur: Verzeichnis Strähuber 1400.
