The muted color palette and subtle display of light creates an atmosphere of silence and melancholy, probably at sunset or during the early morning. Birch trees dominate the picture with their slender, vertically divided trunks. Here, Schlosser clearly uses the contrast between the light in the background and the darker, shadowy foreground. The painting has a meditative effect and captures a moment when nature appears still and silent. In the context of the Art Nouveau movement, which emphasized organic lines and connection with nature, this work is characterized by a subtle stylization of natural elements and an emphasis on the aesthetics of the natural environment.
