Wilhelm Heinrich (Henry Guillaume) Schlesinger 1814 Frankfurt a. M. - 1893 Neuilly Family portrait Signed and dated 1853 lower right. Inscribed on an adhesive label and canvas stamp "Vallé & Bourniche" verso. Oil auf canvas. 63.5 x 80 cm. Restored. Minor damage. Minor damage to frame (79.5 x 96 cm). Der in Frankfurt geborene Künstler studierte und arbeitete zunächst in Wien, bevor es ihn nach Paris zog. Von 1840 bis 1889 stellte er regelmäßig im Pariser Salon aus, ab 1870 verfügte er über die französische Staatsbürgerschaft. Mehrere Reisen führten ihn auch in die Türkei, wovon zwei Bildnisse des Sultan Mahmud II. aus den Jahren 1837 und 1839 zeugen. Sein Werk umfasst historisierende Genredarstellungen im Stil des Rokoko und zahlreiche Bildnisse - insbesondere seine Kinderbildnisse fanden viele Auftraggeber.

Henri-Guillaume Schlesinger (1814-1893) A Young Ottoman Woman At Her Vanity Oil on Canvas Schlesinger was an active participant in the ParisÂ Salon from 1840 to 1889, where he received two medals. Known for his lively and sensitive depictions of young women he spent time in IstanbulÂ in 1837 where he was commissioned to do several official paintings of Sultan Mahmud II, including a large equestrian portrait and one of the Sultan wearing Western-style clothing, which is now on display at the Topkapi Palace Museum. One was donated to King Louis-Philippe by Mustafa ReÅid Pasha, who was then serving as Ambassador to France, and may now be seen at Versailles. Property of a Lady Dimensions: (Framed) 41 (H) x 36 in. Beide sind in spanischer Tracht und barfüßig dargestellt. Nach seinem Studium in Wien lebte Schlesinger in Paris und London. The painting measures 52 x 58 cm, while the frame is 70 x 78 cm in size. Wilhelm Heinrich Schlesinger (1814-1893) Born in Frankfurt am Main, Wilhelm Heinrich Schlesinger attended the Vienna Academy and then worked as a portrait and genre painter as well as a graphic artist in Vienna and Paris. In his early work he also created miniature portraits. In 1870 and 1871, he lived in London. Works by Schlesinger are in the collections of the Kunsthistorische Museum in Vienna, among others. SCHLESINGER h: 107 w: 130 cm Commentaire : Cette joyeuse scène peut être attribuée selon nous à l'artiste allemand actif à Paris Henry-Guillaume Schlesinger. La composition semble avoir obtenu un certain succès car plusieurs versions de qualité plus modeste que la nôtre sont connues. Dans une toile signée et datée 1844, l'artiste représente dans une composition verticale le couple de droite (1) et la musicienne et la chanteuse occupant la partie gauche se retrouvent dans une version de plus petit format elle aussi présentée en vente publique (2). 1.
