      Julius Schlegel (1825 Potsdam - 1884 Berlin): Italian landscape with Monte Cavo, 1852, Pencil Technique: White heightened Pencil on Paper Inscription: lower left signed: "J. Schlegel". lower left inscribed by the artist's hand: "Monte Cavo". lower left dated: "1852". Date: 1852 Description: Julius Schlegel, who lived and worked in Rome between 1847 and 1855, produced a large number of works on his extensive tours of the country. The present sheet also stems from one of these hikes, here to Lake Albano and Monte Cavo not far from Rome. In order to capture the characteristic of the area, he records every detail of the landscape with a sharp pencil and inserts a typical rural scene with a heavily loaded donkey and its driver in the foreground.
