Gräbner' and inscribed and dated ' after Schlater 1874' lower right Dimensions: 57.8 x 93.8 cm Gilt stucco frame: 120 x 85 cm Good condition The painting presents an idyllic coast scenery with lonesome fisher at the beach, who wades through the water to his boats – painted by the presumably German A. Gräbner. The landscape painter Alexander Georg Schlater was a popular painter in his time and inspired obviously other painters. Condition: The painting is in good condition consistent with the age. The varnish is darkened and tiny craquelé can be seen overall on the canvas. The canvas shows traces of pressure in vertical direction brought about by the scratcher frame. There are areas with scuffing due to the frame along the upper edges and corners of the canvas. Retouched spots can be seen allover. On the reverse the canvas shows a relined spot. The frame shows traces of usage such as tears, marks and spots with loss of color, resp. loss of material. The dimensions are 57.8 x 93.8 cm and the frame measures 120 x 85 cm. Alexander Georg Schlater (1834-1879) Alexander Georg Schlater, who was born in Dorpat (Estonia), was a German-Russian landscape painter. He was a pupil of his farther, the painter Friedrich Georg Schlater, and studied at the Academy in St. Petersburg in the 1850s. He had been living in Dusseldorf up from 1872. His oeuvre presents mainly landscapes, townscapes and marine painting. (msc) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
