    • Oil on Canvas “Flower Still Life“ by F. Schaden, Austria 1920s
      Aug. 21, 2015

Oil on Canvas “Flower Still Life“ by F. Schaden, Austria 1920s

      Est: €200 - €260

Oil on canvas Austria, around 1920 Franz Schaden (1888-1938) – Austrian painter Signed lower right “Schaden” Works by Franz Schaden fetch up to 14,000 Euros at international auctions Overall Dimensions: 69 x 70.5 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 1120 EUR The oil painting depicts a blossoming bouquet of pink peonies in a floral decorated vase. The signed floral still life is a thematically very atypical picture painted by the Viennese genre painter Franz Schaden (1888 -1938). The artist often combined his realistic paintings with symbolic elements to present critical social accents. In Asian art the peony is often depicted as a symbol of wealth, honor, female beauty and longevity. In European art, it plays a major role as a symbol for the mother goddess Mary. The still life, in particular the detailed shape of the rose blossoms and the angular folds of the tablecloth, follows the characteristic pronounced realism of Schaden. The painting is of good optical appearance with usual traces of previous framing. In the center of the canvas there is a restoration measuring approximately 5.5 x 4 cm. At the rear side there is a bell-shaped label with the inscription "1944 KW SUHL" as the symbol mark of the restorer. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. Therefore, Auctionata charges when purchasing a good – if a protection as an original work of art or photography is given – starting from a hammer price of EUR 400 an additional amount, which is calculated according to Section 26 (2) German Copyright Act (UrhG) and which does not exceed the amount of EUR 12,500.
