Beginning in the early 20th century, the stark lands and crystal clear skies of the American West lured both American and European artists, as the dramatic colors, minimalist shapes, and flat picture planes resonated with early Modernist sensibilities of the early 20th century. Size: 23.375" W x 17.375" H (59.4 cm x 44.1 cm); (frame): 29.25" W x 23.3" H (74.3 cm x 59.2 cm) Karl Martin Schade was an accomplished Austrian landscape painter. He studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts (later known as the University of Applied Arts Vienna) from 1881 and subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna between 1882 and 1885.
